Welsh butchers to compete in finals of National BBQ Awards
Two top Welsh butchers have made it through to the finals of the National BBQ Awards, which are held annually by the prestigious Q Guild of Butchers to celebrate the very best butchery items for barbecuing.
Q Butchers from across Wales and the southwest of England were invited to enter the regional round of heats to determine who would have their products represented in the six award categories (rump steak, pork sausage, speciality sausage, beef burger, speciality burger and overall barbecue product) at the final in St Albans, Hertfordshire on 13 May 2018.
Two butchers came out on top with Cardiff-based Martin Player High Class Butcher winning four categories: rump steak, beefburger, pork sausage and speciality sausage (with their Welsh Dragon Pork Sausage); and Chris Hayman Butchers of Hengoed in Caerphilly winning the speciality barbecue product category (with their Caribbean Pork & Pineapple Kebab) and speciality burger category (with their Dragon Burger).
Gold and silver awards were also given out to recognise the quality of those remaining products entered by butchers in the area.
The two regional winners will now go on to the finals to compete in their categories nationally and for the overall prize of Supreme Champion.
