Nose to Tail Retailing by Cherrington Farm Butchers

One of our newest Members - Cherrington farm butchers - talks about how they have turned less popular cuts into a successful range of ready meals.

Based in Shawbury the farm has been run by five generations of the Crow family. When Andrew took over the butchery side of the business he saw how much of a struggle it was going to be in only selling prime cuts. The remaining cuts were proving difficult to sell until he started to use them in his own ready meals, which has developed into a full range from Cottage Pie to Lamb Tagine and a range of curry`s.

Cherrington also farm using outdoor traditional farming methods, which has seen his yield increase over the past six years due to the rotational growing of grass and movement of animals. The farm also follows the Higher Level Stewardship Scheme administered by Natural England. This means they use very little nitrogen and increases bird and animal life in the hedgerows.
